SENTE Instructor Joel LeVan

  01 Head Instructor
  02 About the name

Named with a purpose. The word Sente (sen-tay) is a term borrowed from Go, a game of strategy originating in ancient China more than 2,500 years ago.

The game was derived from Chinese war generals who used pieces of stone to map out strategic defensive and offensive positions.

"Sente" describes the person who has the initiative in a situation. It refers to the moves resulting in gaining favorable control or "holding the advantage".

This philosophy translates to combat, business, and life itself.

Training with purpose. Having "sente", as it translates to strategy and combat, especially describes the vision behind the training of SENTE Martial Systems. A martial artist should be innovative, and train to hold the advantage, both physically and mentally. The practitioner should also gain competence in a range of applications and environments as quickly as possible without being bogged down by trivial or outdated practices.
